Recent Programs
Started in 1965, Cheshire DisAbility Services, PNG is one of the leading implementing non-governmental (NGO) and charitable organization for Persons with Disabili-ties and those who are at a higher risk of developing disabilities in PNG.
Cheshire provides interventions which increase adequate access to Health and Rehabilitation, Education, Livelihoods and Social Development for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) so that they can enjoy their full human rights and become full and active members of the society. The organization, has a vast experience in providing a wide range of disability inclusive development services. With priority interventions in all types of disabilities which started in the National Capital District, Cheshire has expanded its programs to other provinces including ,the wider Central, Milne Bay, Southern Highlands Provinces and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. Persons with disabilities, their families and friends are directly involved in the planning and designs of programs and implementation process of activities through participatory approaches. The day to day operations of the organization and programs activities is currently supported through fundraising initiatives, and formal Private Public Partnership arrangements with both national and international partners.
Cheshire is run by a Volunteer Board of Management and supported autonomously within PNG.
Cheshire is a member of the Global Alliance of Leonard Cheshire Disability International based in UK and operating worldwide, the only member from the Pacific, of East Asia and Pacific regional office based Bangkok.
