Cheshire Home of Papua New Guinea is a Non-Governmental Charity Organization that provides a variety of services for people with various types of disabilities in and around Port Moresby.
The primary aim of Cheshire Home is to make a positive difference to the lives of people with disabilities, their families and their carers; through creating opportunities and an environment where they are treated with dignity and respect.
‘’Cheshire recognizes that persons with a disability are more likely to experience higher levels of vulnerability than other members of the community’’
We aim to serve the needs of people whose disabilities result in a substantially reduced capacity for; Communication, Social interaction, Learning, Mobility and Daily living skills
Our Home in Port Moresby was opened in 1965.
Located along Wards Rd (opposite PNG Power) Hohola within the Nations Capital, the original building was funded from England, however since then no further funding has been received.
Daily operational expenses are funded through corporate and public donations. Teacher’s wages and school subsidies are provided by the National Department of Education. Cheshire PNG is now home to 22 fulltime residents of all ages with various types of disabilities who mainly come from less fortunate family backgrounds. Over the last five years we have increased our reach into the community through our Community Based Services allowing us today to provide assistance to more than 200 (and rising) service users in and around Port Moresby city.
Cheshire Home PNG is managed by a Board comprising of individuals who volunteer their time and resources to the cause. The Board of Management (BoM) appoints an Administrator who manages the day to day operations of all the programs and oversees up to 45 staff.
The Home’s finances are managed by Deloitte Touché Tohmatsu and the accounts are audited annually. |
