A brief explanation on Inclusive Education Programme

Inclusive Education Programme caters for small programmes such as:

Centre Base Teaching.
Teaching children with special needs preparing them to be integrated into Mainstream schools. Children without special needs are also enrolled. Same prescribed curriculum taught in Mainstream schools are taught in Centre Base Teaching. Classes commence at 8 am and 12 midday.

Awareness and In-Service Programme in Mainstream Schools.
  • 24 Mainstream Schools are attached in the programme.
  • Awareness & In-Service package has been compiled comprising of 21 sessions.
  • First session is the general awareness of the Home. History of the Home Programmes/Services provided by the Home
  • Practicing teachers in Mainstream Schools who successfully participated and completed all 21 sessions; will be awarded "Certificate of Participation in Inclusive Programme".
  • Awareness and In-Service Resource Team comprises of Inclusive Education Teacher, Support Staff from the Home: General Manager, Fundraising and Awareness Manager, Registered Nurse, Office Assistant (wheel chair user) and Interim Treasurer for PNG Assembly for Persons with Disabilities.
Inclusive Integration Programme.
15 Mainstream schools are attached in this programme.
  • Resource Teacher visits these schools upon Itinerary Schedule.
  • Resource Teacher visits schools and assist integrated students with special needs. Assistance is also extended to other students in schools including immediate class/subject teachers.
  • Service users in this programme are students from Home who are being integrated into Mainstream Schools and others are being referred to by practicing teachers in Mainstream Schools through Awareness and In-Service Programme.
  • 51 students with special needs are attached in this programme.

Sign Language Class Programme

  • Sign Language sessions are facilitated to Mainstream School's teachers. Class is open to other interested persons in other fields.
  • 3 classes: Beginners, Intermediate and Advance.

Early Childhood Programme

  • Chidren whose ages range from zero months - 5 years are attached in this programme.
  • Their disabilities/impairment will determine the type of programmes/services they will receive; either sign language class programme / centre based class / physiotherapy / speech therapy / orientation and mobility training, and so forth.

Sign Language Class Programme

  • Sign Language sessions are facilitated to Mainstream School's teachers. Class is open to other interested persons in other fields.
  • 3 classes: Beginners, Intermediate and Advance.

Networking with Tertiary Institutions

  • Networking with Tertiary Institutions to facilitate tution classes/conduct awareness sessions/present speechs on: disability issues/inclusive education practices, and so forth.
  • Currently the Home is networking with Papua New Guinea Institute; former Port Moresby Teachers College.

Community Based Rehabilitation Program (CBR)

  • Resource Teacher programmer visits service users in their homes/communities.
  • Service Users in this programme are those who have severe disability/impairment.
  • Their disability/impairment will determine the type of programmes/services they will receive.

Hearing Impaired Club

  • Club for the hearing impaired students.
  • Currently a hearing impaired teenager is attached to this programme.
  • She attends class once a week.
